Rashahn's Top Ten. . . Again

In June 2008 I posted a list of the top ten movies I wanted to see. Since I have officially seen all those movies, thought that I would make a new list.

  1. Alice in Wonderland - Excited to see Tim Burton's take on this crazy world, also that it is a sequel and not a remake.

  2. Dear John - yet another cheesey romantic drama LOVE IT!

  3. Iron Man 2 - sadly, I really enjoy the Marvel movies. . . even though it's owned by Disney now.

  4. Leap Year - I really enjoy Amy Adams acting.

  5. Robin Hood- but, it will most likely end up being rated R. it hasn't been decided yet.

  6. Toy Story 3 - everybody knows that i like animation. . . .deal with it!

  7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I - possibly going to be in 3d. . .which will be awesome with all the fighting and such.

  8. Sherlock Holmes - yes technically a 2009 movie, but i haven't seen it yet!

  9. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps - come on, it's Shia!
  10. Despicable Me - I actually don't expect it to be that good, but probably pretty funny.

The movies aren't in any particular order, just as I thought of them.

Attitudes

I have discovered something in the past few days that I’m sure most of you already knew, but I will share anyway!

The attitude you have decides how you will react to different situations. (profound, I know)

For example: While at work, we all have our jobs. Some people know how to do your job and you know how to do another person’s job. Every now and then your paths cross and that person needs something from you. Even though they know how to do your job, they ask you to do it. Some would say, ‘well you know how to do it don’t you?’. Instead why not think ‘they must think that I am better than them at MY job so they are asking me to do it for them this time. Cool.’ I know that sounds a little cheesy put that way, but that is what it comes down to. If I have a sour attitude, I’ll say some sour things when it isn’t really warranted (usually never is). BUT, if I have at the least a positive attitude, in return I’ll have positive thoughts and things to say. Funny how that works.

So how can we make sure that we’ve got a positive attitude? *notice how I am not saying to have a ‘good’ attitude. Positive and good are two different things. I may be having a bad day and still be positive. No, I’m not in a good mood but I’m not biting anybody’s head off either.* For me I have noticed that the days I think I am just too busy (or tired or running too behind) to read my scriptures or say a bedside prayer are the days it’s harder to stay positive. I’m not saying that those two things will fix all of your problems, but it’s a great place to start!

A couple days, or week, ago I mentioned having outlets. I’ve officially discovered my ‘main power source’ for my outlet. It be: paper crafting, or more specifically card making. I put a link on the sidebar to photos of Chatty Cards, check them out when you get the chance I would love some feedback. I update pictures probably about once a week with new cards. I am loving this and Robert even let me spend some money, shaaaame, on making my little area of craftiness more pleasant to be in. Maybe I’ll post pictures soon of it, stay tuned.

Having "Outlets"

Webster says that an outlet is a receptacle for the plug of an electrical device. The interesting part of that is this is the last entry of definitions for ‘outlet’. The first definition has 4 parts to it, my favorites being: a means of release or satisfaction for an emotion or impulse or a medium of expression or publication. I think these two go hand in hand. I also think that everybody needs an outlet. Personally, I have a busy life. . . .without kids. A lot of people do have kids and so often they don’t do anything for themselves. Having an outlet whether it be for anger, depression, stress, or just life in general helps me to express myself and get to know myself better. I know that sounds strange, but think about it. I have two options when I am sitting at home alone all sad. Either I can sit on the couch eating a cosmic brownie and watching t.v. or I can sit at my desk and make a nice card to let someone know that I was thinking about them. This puts a smile on both my face and the recipient of the card. Through making cards lately, I have learned so much about my likes and dislikes that I didn’t even realize! I found too, that I think more clearly when I am working on my cards and come to a much better conclusion to my problem than if I were just watching t.v.

Find an outlet for yourself! It doesn’t have to be anything crafty or physical. It could simply be reading or journaling. I had to find out, after a lot of trial, that making cards is what works for me. Give yourself time to find what works for you and stick with it! Do it on a regular basis, not just when you think you need it. If it makes you happy to do it when something is bothering you, just imagine how you will feel when everything seems ok.

This brings me to another point. I have been working on my spiritual growth a lot lately. I used to be very close to God and felt like we were ‘besties’. For the past year or so I feel like I moved away. We both said that we would keep in touch and we did for a little bit. Then slowly it got ‘too dificult’. One of us (guess who) was really good about calling to check up, but the other wouldn’t answer. But, when they needed help all of sudden there was enough time. I’ve worked really hard to get my relationship with Him back to where it was. I think that I still have a bit to go, but the important part is I talk to Him everyday even when everything seems ok.

And He makes me feel wonderful. Everything seems so trivial compared to the ‘big picture’ of things. When I realize that my time here on Earth is only a miniscule portion of eternity that I’ll be spending with my husband, having an argument about getting rid of a computer desk that isn’t used but is useful seems pointless. Who cares if the desk sits there until we have to replace it with a crib, we don’t need the crib right now!

I know that I’ve rambled on a bit in this post, but I’m not so good at the putting words together thing. Hopefully you get my point.

FAILED!

Here’s the scoop. . . . .

When facebook started to take over the world I swore that I wouldn’t ever get an account. One lonely night, thinking to myself that I wish I had more friends, I thought “oh! Facebook!” Don’t ask why, I don’t know. So, I did the unthinkable and made an account. (feel free to look me up *wink*) I have discovered however, that I am unable to keep up with both facebook and my blog. Again, don’t ask why cause I don’t know. BUT, with this new year upon us I have tried to encourage myself to make a couple of new starts, this being one of them.

I will no longer be a failure in the blogging world, darnit!

Not that Robert and I have very interesting lives to blog about or anything, maybe I’ll just start making up stuff.

If it's chaos you are looking for, you'll need at least two of the following things:
  • A full moon
  • A holiday
  • Ice on the roads
  • Texas Drivers
  • An 18-wheeler hauling beef......don't ask, just get it!
  • Rival Gangs

Confession

Ok, it's about time that I let this out:
I'm like a high school girl fan when it comes to Taylor Swift.
ok, i feel much better now.
Don't try to ask me why, but I just am. I want to cover my room in Taylor Paraphernalia and talk to her while I get ready in the morning wishing her a good day as I go out the door. I am already planning a Taylor and Me scrapbook to make. . . .once I meet her and become lifelong best friends. And no, it's not just the fact that she is an amazingly talented singer/songwriter. It's much more than that. If you have ever seen an interview with her you can tell that she is still a teenager and wants to stay one while having a career. She lives with her parents and is very close to them. I watched this CMT/CNN special the other night and they followed her as she got ready for her Fearless 2009 tour and after the first show the first thing she said when she got off the stage was "wow, that was crazy!" and looking over at one of her crew members says, "i've got a lot of notes for the lighting" . WHAT?! You just had an amazing sold out stadium yelling your name for the past 2 hours and you've got notes on lighting? Yes folks, she remains professional and humble. Need I say more to convince you that Taylor Swift is sheer awesomeness?! Thought not.
Also, found this video today and thought it was absolutely hillarious. She sounds kind of like a little boy rapper and it's so cute. Listen closely to her lyrics, very funny.

Adoption Awareness Month

The first major effort to promote awareness of the need for adoptive families for children in the foster care system occurred in Massachusetts. In 1976, then-Governor Mike Dukakis proclaimed Adoption Week and the idea grew in popularity and spread throughout the nation. President Gerald Ford made the first National Adoption Week proclamation, and in 1990, the week was expanded to a month due to the number of states participating and the number of events.

During the month, states, communities, public and private organizations, businesses, families, and individuals celebrate adoption as a positive way to build families. Across the nation, activities and observances such as recognition dinners, public awareness and recruitment campaigns, and special events spotlight the needs of children who need permanent families. It also includes National Adoption Day, traditionally a Saturday, which is observed in courthouses across the nation as hundreds of adoptions are finalized simultaneously. (http://www.adopting.org/adoptions/november-is-national-adoption-awareness-month-2.html)

This is a video that a very dear friend of mine made. She is so talented and a great mom! Just look at how happy these kids are. And you might recognize the little red head. :)

Eaten Alive

After a glorious game last night by The Crackers and with me scoring a run we got Frosty's. Before i was able to celebrate the good win i had to take the puppy for a walk. Keep in mind this was about 10:30 pm. She decides that the best place for her to 'go' was under a tree with low branches. Not to mention that half of the leaves had fallen off the tree so it was difficult in the dark to decipher between a leaf and a terd. I spent about 5 minutes hunched over under this tree trying to find the right thing to pick up and kept getting leaves. Since the tree was so small i figured that the little pokes i was feeling on my arm were the dead branches. BOY WAS I WRONG!

Exhibit A: 4 ginormous spots given to me by the most infernal creatures ever to roam the earth.
These three are on the back of my upper arm.
There is an extra one right next to my armpit. and yes they always get like this.
